The KEF Home Theatre system was a bold move to bring compact, attractive, multi-channel speakers systems to the wider market. The basic system comprised the 60S satellite, 80C centre and 30B subwoofer – with the option of the ultra compact 55S satellite where unobtrusiveness was highly desirable. The key to this system were the stylish, moulded enclosures that neatly complemented the cosmetic of modern televisions and home furnishings. Technically, the system used the facilities of AV amplifiers to the full, making the most of the new subwoofer/satellite format.

 

The 60S comprised a 130mm (5.25”) Uni-Q array in compact, reflex loaded enclosure, which could be stand mounted, fixed directly onto a wall or stood on a shelf. The symmetrical dispersion of Uni-Q allowed great flexibility in positioning and its uniform power response allowed for reliable timbre matching with the 80C centre. The 60S was the forerunner to the highly acclaimed KHT2000 series ‘egg’ design.

 

The 80C comprised a 130mm (5.25”) Uni-Q array in compact, reflex loaded enclosure, designed to sit neatly on top of a television set or a shelf. The symmetrical dispersion of Uni-Q allowed good coverage of even the largest of listening areas and offered great flexibility in vertical positioning - whether on top of a TV or below on a shelf the sound from the Uni-Q array is remarkably consistent, and its uniform power response allowed for reliable timbre matching with the 60S or 55S satellites.

 

Model 30B comprised a long throw 300mm (12”) forward firing drive unit powered by a 100W amplifier in a closed box. It was designed to complement the 60S, 80C and 55S KEF Home Theatre loudspeakers.

 

The 55S comprised a 100mm (4”) bass driver and 19mm (0.75”) soft dome tweeter in a compact closed box enclosure. It offered much of the capability and refinement of the 60S in an ultra compact enclosure that could neatly blend into the average living room.

 

Model 20B comprised a long throw 250mm (10”) forward firing drive unit powered by a 70W amplifier in a closed box. It was designed to complement the 60S, 80C and 55S KEF Home Theatre loudspeakers. The facilities included stereo high and low level inputs, stereo high and low level high pass outputs, adjustable low pass filter, adjustable volume, and polarity switch. The mark 2 version featured  an updated drive unit and amplifier.
