The new iQ Series for 2008 incorporated several key developments to enhance this consistently successful speaker range.

 

Ongoing research into the physics of Uni-Q systems led to the new ‘tangerine’ waveguide being added in front of the tweeter dome. This clever device controls the sound pressure immediately in front of the dome and allows the high frequency energy to radiate more smoothly into the listening room. The result is a more refined sound and improved stereo imaging.

 

The bass drivers featured the proven low distortion motor systems new dual composite cones to obtain the optimum combination of low mass and high rigidity.

 

A new ‘labyrinth’ technique was added to the floor standing models to control internal standing waves without the need for excessive amounts of acoustic damping – resulting in a clean sounding bass with excellent dynamics and high sensitivity.

 

The cabinets maintained the fully curved back for optimum stiffness, stabilising plinths for the floor standing models, and all models included twin inputs for bi-wiring.

 

The smaller bookshelf model for use in small rooms or where space is at a premium, iQ10 featured the new 130mm(5.25”) Uni-Q array in a two-way ported format.

 

The bigger brother to the iQ10, iQ30 utilised the larger 165mm (6.5”) Uni-Q array in the same two-way ported format, and offered increased sensitivity, bass extension and dynamics.

 

The smallest of the floor standing models, iQ50 had the elegant slim aspect ratio afforded by the use of the 130mm (5.25”) Uni-Q and bass driver in 2½-way format.

 

Offering increased performance from the 165mm(6.5”) Uni-Q and bass driver combined with greater internal volume, iQ70 captured the essence of the sound of iQ50 and brought it across with improved realism and dynamic control.

 

The flagship model of the range, iQ90 was a full three-way system, benefiting from the advanced crossover technology developed for the acclaimed Reference Series. The twin 165mm(6.5”) bass drivers in a critically tuned enclosure with ‘labrinth’ damping allowed fine bass output – clean, tight and deep.

 

The matching centre speaker for the range, iQ60c featured the 130mm (5.25") Uni-Q array in a reflex three-way format with twin 130mm (5.25") bass drivers. As with all KEF centre speakers it was tonally matched to the other models in the range for seamless multi-channel soundstaging and had the capability to project vocals with true realism.
