There are very few times – if any – when you can say you were in a room the day a star was born. As I write this on the plane back from Nashville I have no doubt that last night in a reception room at the Grand Ole Opry during Rainey Qualley’s Opry debut, I got that chance.

Masters of Sound - On the Road to the Grand Ole Opry Day Three

Day Two of the Masters of Sound shoot was to revolve around a recording session of three songs from Rainey Qualley’s debut EP Turn Down The Lights, and a cover of the Motown classic Ain’t Too Proud to Beg. I arrived at the studio at 8:02 figuring I’d be alone for a while, but the video crew, audio engineer and assistant engineer were already working. The main work straight out of the box is setting the tracks and getting the microphones set up and connected to the console.

KEF Masters of Sound - On the Road to the Grand Ole Opry with Rainey Qualley

I got to spend a week with Rainey Qualley and her production and management team preparing our next Masters of Sound video and getting an inside look at life leading up to the Grand Ole Opry. The video itself is being filmed and edited by the stellar crew from Nashville-based Gear Seven, and the studio and logistic support from the good folks at Zavitson Music Group and Cingle Records has made this a really fun project to be a part of.
